C. Wilder Oakes in front of his painting THE LOVERS OVER PORT CLYDE at gallery exhibition

Vision, Passion, a Great Love & Imagination are the Keys to the whole thing!

  • Welcome to my little free-range nexus of the rabbit hole!  I hope you find it a sunny spot in your day for having arrived here!  I  am a mixed media Maine artist living here on the mid-coast in "the house that  art built."  I'm blessed to live just a few hundred feet from my favorite cove, where for 40 years now I've watched the sunsets and sunrises, and the tides and the seasons come and go.  Through it all I've truly been a  lucky dreamer. And that's where it all begins, after all, with all of your dreams you take action towards manifesting to come true.  Action goes hand in hand with following your passion. Though I am primarily into acrylic painting on canvas or panel these days, my passion is and has been (for as long as I can remember),  all about expressing my creativity using any and all mediums available to me. There's a considerable amount to see in this  website -- image galleries, biography, portfolios, the Muses movie trailer (and  link) to "Charles Wilder Oakes & the Muses of Port Clyde," and also a  brand new blog for our musing pleasure (keep scrolling, it's down  below!)  So stay tuned and get ready to take a ride!  More will be revealed & forthcoming!  Feel free to explore what's here (and what dreams may come) and please join my mailing list for updates or to drop me a line with any of your thoughts or questions if you'd like further information about a particular painting or creation.  In the meantime, happy rabbit-holing!  Peace, more peace, and prosperity to you!  Let it roll!    ☮️   +  ❤️        ― CWO

    My Background

When I was a kid growing up on the cove in Port Clyde Maine, all I had was a pencil and paper, but it started me down the rabbit hole creatively. I didn't get into real artist paints until I was two years into high school. Happy days! You bet! This love has never faded from the moment I sold my first paintings to my teachers in high school. I remember saying: "This is what I was born to do!"

I use all sorts of different mediums, such as found objects, driftwood, hand carved & shaped wood that I apply with nails and glue.  I'm into repurposing. Always have been.  I work with oils, watercolor, acrylics, and really, whatever is at hand to make a piece manifest!  Oh, and I'm also known to create my own unique frames!

Beauty wherever I find it, sends me.   I've always found a way to go wandering into realms of transcendence.  (Not all who wander are lost, after all!)  Poetry. Muses.  Angels.  Earth angels.  Mermaids. Pixies. Nature. I'll get nudges of a notion and keep turning it over 'til sumpin' gels in my imagination.  Put another canvas on the easel! Have at it, ya Wild Thing! 🎵
